Crookwath Specialities

Walk straight onto the fell from Crookwath Cottage and leave the car behind for a week! There are many walks from the doorstep including Helvellyn, the Dodds, Gowbarrow, Birket Fell and Lucy’s Wood. See our Walks Page for more details!

Bike, Ride, Fish or Fly?

Fell horse riding and quad biking is available at Rookin House, only 2 miles from Crookwath Cottage. E-Bike hire: Bikes can be delivered to Crookwath ready for your arrival from www.ullswaterbikes.co.uk 07919 892139. Lake and river fishing can be arranged with Hemmingways 07771 763067. Or take a gyrocopter flight over the Lakes with www.lakedistricgyroplanes.co.uk. The take off point is only 3 miles from Crookwath and you will see it flying over Crookwath most sunny days.

Entertainment and Dining

The Theatre by the Lake offers great entertainment in Keswick throughout the year, including the Keswick Mountain Film Festival, the Book Festival, and the Jazz Festival. Or you could take a trip over the Kirkstone Pass to Zefferelli’s combined restaurant and multiplex cinemas.

Or feed the body with some of country’s best restaurants in the Ullswater area just a couple of miles away from Crookwath. Cumbria itself is now home to the largest number of Michelin starred restaurants outside London.

  • Your nearest pub is the Royal Hotel in the village of Dockray, a couple of minutes in the car, or a 15-20 min walk on the footpath through Lucy’s Wood and down the road. Tel: +44 (0)17684-82356.

  • The Brackenrigg Inn, Watermillock overlooks Ullswater, and has great views! Good food and local beers with it’s own microbrewery. Again best to book. Tel: +44 (0)1768 486206.
